This note is for all the parents of students in my, Dr. Ashmeade's and Mrs. Vann's class.
This next week I will be putting in final grades for all students. If a student has NOT turned in all of their work to me by Monday, then they will receive a 60. As writing is a long and involved process, there are not a lot of grades for writing craft during this 1st 9 week period. All students were told on Monday that their final piece of narrative writing was due this Friday, Oct. 7th. Unfortunately, I have four students from Dr. Ashmeade's class who did not turn theirs in, 1 student from my class, and a whopping 13 students from Mrs. Vann's class who did not turn their stories in. Your child was supposed to be given time today in their home room, even though it was a soar day, to complete their work. I will make an exception this one time to accept late papers on Tuesday morning. If you would like to know if your child is missing this paper, you may email me at [email protected]. I sent out a Remind blast today, and Mrs. Wilson sent out a parent email about this as well. Please have your child bring in a pad of 4 x 6 lined sticky notes. We will be using them during writing. THIS IS FOR ALL 3 CLASSES! Thank you for your continued support!! Big Shanty Clean Up Day is coming NEXT weekend! Saturday 10/15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. If your child comes to help out, they will earn a coin for their house team in addition to gaining the proud feeling of helping out his/her school! Hello!
I was so happy to see all the children back at school today; I truly missed seeing them. I enjoyed hearing the many different stories of adventures and fun times spent with friends and family. This week is our last of the 9 week grading period. Your child will complete one final narrative this week, and we will publish them on Thursday. I hope that everyone stays healthy and stays at school in the afternoon so we can accomplish all that we need to. Don't forget! Next Monday is our field trip to Red Top Mountain. I am STILL missing permission slips! Please turn those in ASAP! Have your child wear appropriate shoes and clothes for being outside. This week we have our Family Fun Fitness night and spirit night at BBQ Street on Tuesday. Go to dinner first, and then come here and join us for some fun fitness activities afterward! Sounds like a plan to me. Thursday night is our first ever spirit night at Bojangles. Please come on by and see Mrs. Yates and Dr. Luscre working the drive through window, or come inside to hear our chorus and drummers perform. It should be a lot of fun! Enjoy your week! Ms. Ryan
Hello again,
Did you enjoy the long Labor Day weekend? I hope so! It was so beautiful this morning, it had me yearning for those crisp autumn mornings. Our first STEM day was a huge success! It's hard to know who had more fun, the kids or me! As soon as I check to see who has turned in their photo permission forms, I will start a separate page for pictures and upload all of those I have taken so far this year. Our next STEM day will be November 11th. Is your child talking about the house coins? We are having a lot of fun collecting them throughout the week and waiting to hear who the winning house is on Friday. Along with the coins, we have been issuing Eagle Bucks to the kids each day. This week is the first time the students will have an opportunity to "spend" their money at our school store! Some of my students have already told me that they are saving their bucks. We shall see what happens on Thursday. Please be sure to look at the important dates tab for information about our upcoming field trip in October. This November we will be asked to vote to amend the state constitution and the outcome will directly impact our public schools. Watch the Georgia PTA's informative video and be prepared to vote in the best interest of education. Opportunity School District - What Does This Mean? Copy and paste the Vimeo link below into your browser to see the video. Have a great week! Ms. Ryan

Welcome back to my blog! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.
Thank you so much for sending in used books for our school book sale, and the STEM supplies! Here's a quick reminder that we have two field trips coming up. One to Red Top Mountain in October, and one to the symphony in December. PLEASE, please, please sign and send in your child's performing arts permission slip. He or she will not be able to go hear the ASO in December if you don't. Thank you! This Friday is our first ever STEM day! I am excited to take part in this educational, fun filled day. We will have two speakers in the morning, and then work on our challenge for the rest of the day. We are going to have such a great time! Next Friday, Sept. 9th, we will be honoring first responders in the afternoon at our annual Patriot Day Celebration. We would love to see you there. Please see below for more information.. Look on the curriculum page for what we are doing in writing and number talks this week! Have a great week, and enjoy the upcoming Labor Day weekend! Ms. Ryan Thank you for the STEM donations. Keep them coming please!! We are so excited about our STEM day coming up in September.
Parents, please make sure you sign and return the permission slip for the Performing Arts field trip. If you need another form, please let me know. I hope you all have a wonderful week! Hello! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I am rested and ready for another great week with all of the kids.
This page will most often be for my homeroom's specific information. For those of you in Dr. Ashmeade and Mrs. Vann's classes, please go to the ELA page to see what we will be doing each week. For ALL students, try to wear a shirt to school tomorrow (Monday) that is of your "house" color, either orange, green, turquoise blue, or purple. Don't forget: picture day is THIS Thursday, the 18th. Order envelopes went home last week. If you are ordering pictures, please be sure your child returns their envelope by Thursday. Thank you! Enjoy your week! Ms. Ryan Thank you for coming out to our Open House last night. If you feel like you have more questions for me, please feel free to email me, or even schedule a conference with me. I am always happy to talk to you!
This week we started rotating with Dr. Ashmeade's and Mrs. Vann's classes. Yesterday was a little chaotic, but today was MUCH better! Tonight is the PTA meeting and open house for 3rd & 4th grade at 6 p.m. In writing, we are going to have a narrative writing pre-test, and begin to learn about how to write about "small moments" in time. For our number talks this week, we are starting out from the beginning with addition strategies to refresh the students with the different addition strategies. Each week we will focus on one or two strategies, depending upon how all the students do with it. Please don't forget to sign up for Remind, and also follow our class Twitter account (all contact info is located under the contact tabs) Have a great week, and please check out the other tabs for important information. What a great first day! I thoroughly enjoyed my time with your children today, and it seems like they did as well. At least they all SAID that they'd be back tomorrow!
Ask your child about our spaghetti/marshmallow challenge. Two teams basically tied for 1st place, with their towers standing at 19". It was a fun team building experience. HOMEWORK: Find a book to read in class, complete the interest survey, and bring both to school tomorrow. If you haven't already done so, please sign up for REMIND. Directions were given out at Meet & Greet, but the code and link are also listed on the contact page. Thanks, and have a great evening! Ms. Ryan |
